I cannot believe it’s been years since I updated this blog. So much has happened since 2019. The pandemic brought forth changes in our lives and personally changed my health forever. I took a step away from photography for a couple of years due to my post-Covid health issues; with occasional shoots in the mix and only now feeling 80% back to my normal self.
What did I realize through all of this? I realized I miss and crave doing something meaningful. Photography isn’t about saving lives or anything, but it is about capturing the moments in between all of the big moments, as well as the big ones themselves.
A reminder of this was when a man contacted me to see if I had any photos of his son that I could send him. His son had passed away unexpectedly and he remembered that I was the photographer who photographed his small wedding a few years back. He mentioned that he didn’t have many recent photos of his son and emphasized just how important and meaningful receiving any photos would be. I sent him any and every photo I had taken of the event and my heart ached for him. I then remembered that when all is said and done, visual mementos are often some of the only things we have left of a person after they’ve passed. These moments are so important and if we’ve learned anything from the pandemic, we’ve learned that health, life, and time are something not to take for granted. I miss photographing families, couples, events, and more, and look forward to continuing to do so this year and beyond.
